Enhancing flexible primary packaging with Exceed™ S performance polyethylene resins
Creating stiffer, tougher, more durable flexible packaging often requires multiple resins, more blending, and sacrifices in conversion efficiency. What if your resin did more? Exceed S PE delivers simplicity without compromise. Now you can get stiffness and toughness with less blending, and resin solutions that streamline film and package making operations while improving package durability.
This webinar provided an introduction to Exceed S in flexible primary packaging applications. It covered non-laminated coextruded films, PE//PE laminates, hot-filled bag-in-box, and showed why Exceed S PE will enable you to rethink film design.

High molecular weight (HMW) phthalates are some of the most widely used general purpose plasticizers today.
This is not by accident or a result of a lack of alternatives; rather, their broad decades-long history of use is a testament to their strong performance, durability, versatility, cost-effectiveness and excellent safety record.
In recent years, HMW phthalates have come under increasing scrutiny, much of it driven by a misunderstanding of what HMW phthalates really are, how they are used and the abundance of evidence demonstrating their safety.
Have you noticed that despite the increased regulatory focus on phthalates in general, no HMW phthalate is classified for any human or environmental hazards under the stringent EU REACH CLP regulations? That isn’t by accident either! It is a reflection of the enormous weight of the evidence supporting their safe use.

Novel performance polyethylene resins for nylon reduction in cast barrier films
Multilayer cast barrier films are used for making thermoformable bottom webs which are a significant part of meat and cheese packages. Such films are typically made of multimaterials such as PE, PP, EVOH and nylon with each material needed for specific functionality of the package.
However, there is increasing desire and drive from the film converters and brand owners to reduce or eliminate nylon from these packages in order to increase the potential for them to be mechanically or chemically (advanced) recycled. This need is driven by higher focus from the converters and brand owners to meet the value chain’s sustainability goals.
As a result, novel performance polyethylene (pPE) resins from ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company were explored in collaboration with W&H using their 11 layer cast barrier film line at W&H R&D center in Lengerich, Germany. The results of this study showed that it was possible to reduce up to 25% nylon content and in some cases, even up to 50% nylon content in the cast barrier films when specific pPE resins from EMCC were used.
The interesting results from this study are discussed and presented here, which helps to open up the possibilities for the film converters and brand owners in this space to achieve their sustainability goals for 2025 and beyond.

Creating sustainable solutions. Together.
Flexible packaging is often made from multiple types of polymer sheets layered together. Such multilayer packaging is difficult to mechanically recycle and can frequently end up as waste. India's Plastic Waste Management Rules require non-recyclable multi-layer packaging to be phased out*. In collaboration with Amcor, Shrinath Rotopack and Syntegon, ExxonMobil has developed a high-quality, recyclable packaging solution for dry food packaging without compromising the performance features of multilayer flexible packaging options.
