Exxtend™ technology for advanced recycling

Advanced recycling is an important complement to mechanical recycling that can help to reduce plastic waste in the environment and increase the circularity of plastic. Advanced recycling can effectively transform plastic waste into the raw materials that can be used in the process of making virgin-quality plastic and other valuable products. Advanced recycling enables a broader range of plastic products to be recycled, including dirty plastics with food contact, with a lot less sorting and cleaning than is needed with mechanical recycling.

While mechanical recycling is a proven method to process certain plastic waste, advanced recycling can help capture value from a broader range of plastic waste and provides additional flexibility in the solid waste sorting and separation processes. ExxonMobil has commercialized technology to help enable and accelerate large-scale advanced recycling solutions that can address some of the limitations of traditional mechanical recycling.
